University of Michigan (U-M) Student Life (SL) facilitates transformational student experiences by advancing student learning and development, fostering well-being, and cultivating an inclusive and equitable campus community. The office of the Chief Mental Health Officer partners closely with the U-M University Health Service (UHS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Wolverine Wellness (WW), Michigan Medicine, academic departments and SL units. This position will be based in UHS, an AAAHC-accredited outpatient multispecialty health clinic that serves a large and diverse student body of more than 50,000 students, as well as U-M faculty and staff. UHS provides direct patient care through its primary care, specialty and mental health clinics, as well as public health, epidemiologic surveillance, health education and promotion. Mental health and wellbeing of U-M students is supported across a continuum of care, from universal prevention to specific and specialized clinical care.
Job Summary
The Mental Health Project Manager (PM) will report directly to the SL Chief Mental Health Officer and join a dynamic and collaborative team of mental health clinicians, epidemiologist, data analysts, students, faculty, and administrators to strategically advance key initiatives and innovative programming in support of U-M student mental health. The PM will be responsible for supporting a variety of initiatives. In the first year of this position, projects will include (but are not limited to): mental health clinical care optimization, practice transformation, and suicide prevention programming in partnership with campus and industry experts. This highly collaborative position will work with colleagues across campus to optimize mental health outcomes and the student experience of campus services and programs.
NOTE: THIS IS A FULL TIME 2-YEAR LIMITED TERM POSITION (with the potential to reevaluate for extension)
Responsibilities*
Project Management (60%)
- Manage and execute multiple moderate to complex concurrent projects of varying scope and complexity related to student mental health on the U-M Ann Arbor campus
- Develop detailed work plans, schedules, and status reports of initiatives and objectives
- Analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action available to project team members
- Resolve issues, manage changes, and escalate issues to achieve project outputs
- Plan, coordinate, document processes, and clearly communicate project objectives and plans with multiple stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of high-quality deliverables.
- Provide administrative support to ensure meetings are organized, effective, and scheduled with appropriate preparation and follow-up to support the delivery of tasks and actions.
- Identify issues and develop proposals to resource and advance objectives
- Ensure delivery and maintenance of short and long-term key project initiatives in alignment with institutional policies, standards and benchmarks
- Build inclusive relationships with key partners, and model respect, resourcefulness, and collaboration
- Champion ongoing continuous improvement efforts throughout the duration of programs and projects
Reporting and Communication (20%)
- Prepare summaries for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., mental health outcomes data, annual reports, clinical operations, patient satisfaction)
- Assist in the translation of project findings into engaging visual and written content relevant to a range of constituents
- Liaise with public health, medical, mental health, and campus colleagues, as well as relevant mental health organizations
- Respond to inquiries from relevant stakeholders
Data Collection and Synthesis (10%)
- Coordinate data collection process for relevant objectives
- Connect information across sources, units, and initiatives, gathering new information in a systematic manner, as needed
- Obtain relevant benchmark information in support of project success
Other Duties (10%)
- Support just-in-time needs, sometimes with quick turnaround times, to respond to campus mental health objectives
- Collaborate with managers to deliver on relevant key performance indicators
- Participate on relevant committees required for situational awareness and engagement around scope of work
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 2-4 plus years of experience with project management and/or transferable experience, preferably in a clinical, public health, or mental health-related field. Experience includes being resourceful and able to work independently with sometimes limited supervision, and to know when to consult with colleagues and subject matter experts.
- Proficient in project management tools, processes, and best practices for managing complex projects in order to prioritize and efficiently complete work in a fluid, rapidly changing environment with multiple stakeholders and simultaneous projects.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication, including strong presentation and meeting facilitation skills.
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's degree in a related field (e.g., MHA, MPA, MBA, MPH)
- Proficiency with project management skills, tools, and best practices
- Advanced experience with Microsoft (MS) suite of tools, including Excel and Powerpoint (or non-MS equivalent)
- Ability to write clear and concise summaries and to create charts, tables, and other visual aids
- Working knowledge of public health concepts, lean principles, and healthcare quality improvement
- Familiarity with higher education mission, student development, and student affairs

Work Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours/week position, generally coinciding with hours UHS is open (Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm). There may be potential to flex hours or work up to 1-2 days per week remotely (based on operational needs). Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually (at a minimum) and are subject to change depending on the business needs of the department.

Physical Requirements
Ability to do computer work on a full-time basis, which may require being in a stationary position for extended periods of time and doing repetitive tasks.

This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/23 or after, will not be eligible for the university salary/merit plan in 2023 unless otherwise notified.
